Voter Registration Requirements 

Any citizen 17 years of age may register to vote and enroll in a party at the Registrars of Voters Office in Town Hall. All voters must be 18 years of age on election day in order to vote. Voter Registration Deadlines

Voter Registration Deadlines     

Your mail in Voter Registration application must be postmarked by the 14th day before an election or received by your Registrar of Voters or a Voter Registration Agency by the 14th day before an election. During elections, polls are open 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 7 locations throughout town as noted below. Call the Registrars of Voters Office at 291-7280 for the voting location in your district.

Absentee ballots are available at East Hartford Town Hall, 740 Main Street. Those eligible for absentee ballots include:

  • Military personnel.
  • Absence from town during all the hours of voting.
  • Anyone whose illness or physical disability prevents them from going to the polls on election day.
  • Anyone whos religious beliefs forbids them from voting on election day.
  • Any election official working at a polling place other than their own.
  • Emergency illness.

Families of military personnel may call the Town Clerk’s office at 860-291-7230 to request that a ballot be sent directly to the military service person, spouses and dependents.
